Saxophonist David Murray and percussionist Sir Kahil El' Zabar are both modern music masters who have been at the forefront of creative exploration and compositional diversity for more than four decades. Consistent collaborators through the years, El'Zabar played in some of Murray's ensembles and Murray appeared on four duo albums under El'Zabar's name. Both consummate virtuosi, the pair "possess ingenious interpretations within the history and future of Great Black Music."  Together, they present, as they describe it, "freedom music in its noblest sense, meant to heal and release." One of Chicago's jazz treasures and a member of the AACM, El'Zabar is revered globally as a cultural visionary and an innovative music conceptualist. He has recorded more than 60 acclaimed projects as a leader, composer, and arranger and holds a PHD in Interdisciplinary Arts. He has worked with artists as diverse as Dizzy Gillespie, Pharaoh Sanders, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Cannonball Adderley, Archie Shepp, Paul Simon, Kurt Elling and Billy Bang.In May 2014, he was Knighted by the Council General of France - Chevalier Medal De Lettres. With well over 200 celebrated projects, David Murray is one of the most recorded musicians as a leader in the history of jazz. A founding member of the World Saxophone Quartet, he has worked with everyone from Elvin Jones, Jack DeJohnette and McCoy Tyner, to Max Roach and Amiri Baraka, and is currently working with R&B, jazz and soul singer, Macy Gray as part of his David Murray Big Band. He won a Grammy Award in 1989 for the Best Jazz Instrumental Group Performance for his Tribute to John Coltrane and in 2012 received an Honorary Doctorate Of Music Degree from Pomona College, Claremont, California. $25/$20 Members & Students
