Born and raised in Santa Fe, NM, trumpeter JQ Whitcomb holds a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music where he studied with Marcus Belgrave and Kenny Davis. He also earned a B.A. in Chinese Language from Oberlin College and spent eight years living and performing in Shanghai, China. He has shared stages with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Robin Eubanks, Clark Terry, and many others and plays everything from electronic music, acid jazz, salsa, funk, reggae, and Afro-Cuban. After  returning to Santa Fe in 2010, he formed Five Below, also playing with the flamenco-jazz quartet, Tierra Sonikete and the jazz-funk trio, What the What.  He released his CD, J.Q. Whitcomb Tales of Enchantment in 2014, moving to New York City in 2015 where he is working on his Master's Degree at the Juilliard School of Music. In NYC, he has been busy composing and arranging music, much of it inspired by his return to city life. Five Below features his NM colleagues, Kanoa Kaluhiwa, saxophone; Asher Barreras, bass; John Rangel, piano; and John Bartlit, drums. Tickets: $20/$15 Members & Students
