Matana Roberts' ANTHEM Quartet
Add to Cal
Outpost's Fall 2014 season opens with innovative Chicago-born, New York based alto saxophonist Matana Roberts, one of several artists to recently receive the prestigious Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Impact Award to pursue creative work. Roberts works in many performance/sound mediums including improvisation, dance, poetry, and theater. In describing her work, she says, "At my artistic core, I am firmly dedicated to creating a unique, and very personal, experiential body of sound work that speaks to, and reminds people of all walks of life to reach, stand up, give voice, regardless of difference, created from mere labels of intellectual classification." Along with Roberts, The Anthem Quartet features Gabriel Guerrero, piano; Kevin Tkacz, bass; and Tomas Fujiwara, drums.
The performance of Matana Roberts' ANTHEM Quartet, presented by Outpost, in collaboration with Roulette Intermedium Inc., and Angel City Arts, is supported by Presenter Consortium for Jazz, a program of Chamber Music America, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
