ABQ WOW (Women of the World) Poetry Slam Championship

Poetry Slam returns to the Outpost Performance Space as ABQSlams presents eight of the best female performance poets in Albuquerque competing to claim the title of Best Woman Slammer. The winner of the ABQ WOW Poetry Slam will represent the Duke City at the International Women of the World Poetry Slam in Denver in March 2012. Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWps) is an all-woman event created by Women For Women Poetry Slam Competitors under the auspices of Poetry Slam, Inc. — the organization that drives the National Poetry Slam. ABQSlams has presented poetry slams in Albuquerque since 1995, showcasing some of the best performance poets in the Southwest. Among the poets that may participate in tonight’s four-round IWPS style poetry slam are former ABQ WOW champs Erin Northern, Brooke von Blomberg, and Esmé Vaandrager as well as competitors Jasmine Cuffee, Olivia Gatwood, Jessica Helen Lopez, Patricia Gillikin, and Eva Crespin.
