NEA Jazz Master, Toshiko Akiyoshi works with New Mexico’s own Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra (AJO) which has, since 2007, been under the direction of Bobby Shew (who was lead trumpet in Ms. Akiyoshi’s L.A.-based Big Band in the 1970’s). This is an opportunity to hear the band working with master arranger and composer, Akiyoshi as they work out the kinks in her unique, complex, and fascinating music in preparation for their performance the next night at the Lensic in Santa Fe.
