The Claudio Perez Trio featuring Jesse Herrera & Brian Wingard Quartet

The Claudio Perez Trio, featuring Perez on guitar, is joined by vocalist Jesse Herrera for this performance which will offer a mix of jazz standards, Brazilian jazz tunes and originals. The trio’s focus is on swing built on a heavy foundation of the blues. Claudio Perez has studied with guitarist Michael Anthony for several years and has played with saxophonist Doug Lawrence, along with other New Mexico jazz luminaries. Trio mates, bassist, Colin Deuble, and drummer Chase Ellison— a recent graduate from the UNM music program— are the backbone of the Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra and together make up one of the most respected rhythm sections in town. Jesse Herrera is an aspiring and impressive young jazz vocalist who has been collaborating with Perez.

Hailing from Questa, NM, saxophonist, Brian Wingard favors bebop, hardbop, and the modern traditions of jazz, demonstrating a love for the big, aggressive tenor sounds popular in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. In addition to jazz standards, the Brian Wingard Quartet explores new directions and combinations through their original compositions. The group also features John Rangel, piano; Colin Deuble, bass; and John Trentacosta, drums.
