Vocalist, Jackie Zamora and her Brazilian Quintet will make their Outpost debut exploring several styles of Brazilian music, such as Samba, Bossa Nova and Choro. Jackie Zamora, who is originally from Peru, is a well known singer on the Albuquerque Latin music scene, having sung with Casablanca, Encanto, and Concepto Tambor. Besides the Brazilian Quintet, she is currently also the lead singer with Calle 66 and Baracutanga. She will be joined by the group’s musical director, Paul Gonzales, trumpet & percussion; Michael Anthony, guitar; Colin Deuble, bass; and Fernando Garavito, drums.

Based in Rhode Island, saxophonist, Greg Abate has been widely called one of the “best post-bebop alto saxophonists out there today.” A frequent performer in New Mexico where he has collaborated with drummer Pete Amahl for many years, Abate was a student at the Berklee College of Music in the early 1970s, going on to play lead alto with the Ray Charles Orchestra, later joining the Artie Shaw Orchestra, and touring with Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, and Mel Torme. He has shared bandstands with Red Rodney, Richie Cole, Kenny Barron, Elvin Jones, Hilton Ruiz, George Mraz, Kenny Washington, James Moody, Paquito D’Rivera, Hank Jones, and Rufus Reed, many of whom have been featured on his own CDs. Tonight he will be accompanied by John Rangel, piano; Michael Glynn, bass; and Pete Amahl, drums.
