Wordspace: Lisa Gill w. The Michael Vlatkovich Trio

lisa

Recently awarded the New Mexico Literary Arts’ “Gratitude Award” and on the heels of receiving her MFA from UNM, Lisa Gill is ready to celebrate. Gill is known not only for her award-winning poetry, but also for her arts activism and her love of experimentation and collaboration. She will be performing from her new book Dark Enough (La Alameda Press)— offering small lyrics of astronomical observation and inquiry. Joining her will be Outpost regulars Michael Vlatkovich, Mark Weber, and Dave Wayne. Working from the Left Coast since 1973, trombonist and composer Michael Vlatkovich delights in blending jazz and world music styles into his own brand of engaging, unpredictable music. Often using a call & response approach when working with poets, astute melodic / rhythmic cells convey a sense of wit as well as sensitivity to the poetic material. Known for his music-word collaborations with Connie Crothers and others, Mark Weber, poet, musician & KUNM disc jockey, is also one of the nation’s foremost virtuoso on the hubkaphone, a gamelan-like percussion instrument made of hubcaps. Santa Fe drummer and percussionist, Dave Wayne has performed over the years with Katie Harlow, Joseph Sabella, Zimbabwe Nkenya, Chris Jonas, Alan Lechusza, Stefan Dill, Rob Brown, and more. He leads his own eclectic ensemble called Dave Wayne & The Things That Are Heard. This version of the Michael Vlatkovich Trio last performed at The Roost in the Summer 2009.
