Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWps)

Poetry slam returns to the Outpost Performance Space as ABQSlams presents ten of the best female performance poets in Albuquerque competing to claim the title of best woman slammer. The winner will represent the Duke City at the international Women of the World Poetry Slam in Columbus, Ohio in March 2010. The Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWps) is an all-woman event created by women for women under the auspices of Poetry Slam, Inc., the organization that drives the National Poetry Slam. Last year, Erin Northern represented Albuquerque at WOWps in Detroit, Mich. ABQSlams has presented poetry slams in Albuquerque since 1995, showcasing some of the best performance poets in the Southwest, and winning the National Poetry Slam in 2005. Poets scheduled to participate in this year’s three-round ABQWOW poetry slam are Liza Wolfe, Jessica Lopez, Tracey Pontani, Sarah Tafoya and more.
