Acknowledged as the longest-lived, most influential traditional New Mexican Hispanic musical group, Los Reyes de Albuquerque celebrates the 80th birthday of the group’s co-founder and patriarch, Roberto Martinez, Sr. Los Reyes have been at the forefront of presenting, preserving and perpetuating traditional New Mexican and Mexican folk music for 46 years.  They perform public concerts in clubs, theatres, town squares, schools, senior centers and nursing homes and members of the group visit major metropolitan areas as well as underserved Hispanic villages and Native American pueblos. Documentarians, Paul Ingles and Genevieve Russell (co-creators of Jazz of Enchantment) have been exploring the Martinez family story and the music, history and mission of Los Reyes de Albuquerque in both sound and photography. The evening will feature a screening of the video presentation combining Russell’s photography and Ingles’ audio documentary for public radio station KUNM, as well as a performance by Los Reyes de Albuquerque.

This documentary project is funded by grants from both The New Mexico Humanities Council and KUNM’s Independent Producer’s Fund.
