John Rangel & the Solar Trio

The Solar Trio plays what John Rangel describes as “high energy compositions with environmental consciousness.” Now based in Santa Fe where he makes “music powered by the sun at our new Solar Recording Studio in Santa Fe and distributed in a sustainable way,” pianist and composer John Rangel grew up in NYC where he studied jazz piano with Joanne Brackeen, Kenny Werner, Stanley Cowell, Richie Beirach, and Phil Markowitz. Moving to Los Angeles in the early 1990s, he immersed himself in the vibrant culture of Leimert Park known as the “African Greenwich Village”  and brimming with poets, artists, and musicians. Rangel has played with artists ranging from Nat Adderly to Sam Rivers, Ravi Coltrane, Pharaoh Sanders, Ernie Watts, Sam Most, Blay Amboley and His Afrikan Jazz Band, Carmen Bradford, Rosemary Clooney, Joe La Barbera, and Billy Higgins in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to the the Playboy Jazz Festival; and the Central Avenue Jazz Festival to Ronnie Scott’s in London. The Solar Trio features Luis Guerra, bass and Diego Arencon, drums. The performance will be recorded using binaural technology for Rangel’s new label called free2earth.
