with special guest, Ellis Paul

eliza

A politically minded, socially and spiritually conscious singer-songwriter, Eliza Gilkyson has become one of the most respected musicians in roots, folk and Americana circles. Inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame in 2003, she has toured with Richard Thompson, Patty Griffin and Mary Chapin Carpenter and appeared on NPR, Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage and e-town. The daughter of legendary songwriter, Terry Gilkyson, Eliza grew up in Los Angeles and in the late 1960’s moved to New Mexico where she raised a family, later moving to Europe where she worked with Swiss composer and harpist Andreas Vollenweider. Gilkyson has recorded five albums on Red House Records, including Land of Milk and Honey, which was nominated for a Grammy. Of her recent release, Beautiful World (2008) Gilkyson says, “This may be my most joyful recording yet. Maybe it is because dark times can illuminate all that is good and decent and worth living for.” Guitarist, Nina Gerber will accompany Gilkyson for this concert. Ellis Paul, a leader in the wave of singer-songwriters that emerged from the Boston folk scene, is one of the leading voices in American songwriting. Bridging the gulf between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, he helped create a movement that revitalized the national acoustic circuit with an urban, literate, folk pop style. Paul’s songs regularly appear in hit movies and TV soundtracks and he has recorded 14 CDs. He recently completed a documentary/concert DVD called 3,000 Miles and a critically acclaimed book of poems and stories, Notes from the Road. His latest CD, The Day After Everything Changed, was released this fall.
