Sunday, November 15, 7:30pm Geoff Muldaur and Jim Kweskinsponsored by Joan Weissman Studio
Jim Kweskin and Geoff Muldaur, founding members of the hugely popular 1960s group, Jim Kweskin & The Jug Band (also with Fritz Richmond, Maria Muldaur and Mel Lyman) share a rare chemistry that was instantly renewed when they reunited as a duo for a Fritz Richmond Memorial concert in Tokyo in 2006. They have been playing select dates ever since and the distinctive qualities they brought to the Jug Band—Kweskin’s clean, rhythmic finger picking and Muldaur’s emotional, quavering voice—remain their signature. When it comes to acoustic folk, blues, and ragtime, Kweskin and Muldaur are unparalleled exponents of the best aspects of American music. The Jim Kweskin Jug Band was responsible for creating a new style in the American musical scene and their influence was felt in Jerry Garcia’s first band, Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions, and subsequently The Grateful Dead; as well as in groups like the Lovin’ Spoonful. Over the years, Jim Kweskin, has been honing his skills and developing new arrangements of American folk and jazz material while Geoff Muldaur returned to full-time performing in the late nineties with his much-heralded CDs, The Secret Handshake and Password, followed by his live recording from Bremen, Beautiful Isle of Somewhere. $30/$25 Members & Students. |
