Comprising 15 of the finest jazz soloists and ensemble players today, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JALCO) under the direction of Wynton Marsalis, has been the resident jazz orchestra at Lincoln Center since 1988. The band performs a vast repertoire ranging from rare historic compositions, to commissioned works by renowned jazz composers as well as members of the orchestra. Featured in all aspects of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s programming, the versatile JALCO also performs and leads educational events across the U.S. and around the world in concert halls, dance venues, jazz clubs, public parks, river boats, and churches; with symphony orchestras, ballet troupes, local students and an ever-expanding roster of guest artists. They were featured in the PBS Great Performances show Swingin’ with Duke: Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, and to date, twelve JALCO recordings have been released. Renowned trumpeter, Wynton Marsalis is a devoted advocate and ambassador for the arts as well as inspiring educator. The Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, he has recorded more than 30 jazz and classical CDs, which have won him nine GRAMMY Awards. He is also the first jazz musician ever to be honored with the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in Music. JALCO features Wynton Marsalis, Vitaly Golovnev, Marcus Printup, and Ryan Kisor, trumpets; Chris Crenshaw, Vincent Gardner, Elliot Mason, trombones; Victor Goines, Ted Nash, Walter Blanding, Sherman Irby, Joe Temperley, woodwinds; Dan Nimmer, piano, Carlos Henriquez, bass; and Ali Jackson, drums.
