Ryan Christopher Quintet + Rumbatronix

Vocalist, trumpeter, and songwriter Ryan Christopher graduated from Manzano High School in 2005 and went on to study broadcast journalism at the University of New Mexico while also performing with a variety of ensembles around town. Christopher was noticed by a film and television agent while playing trumpet at a gig and has since appeared in numerous commercials and Hollywood movies. He is now a member of the Screen Actors Guild. As a trumpeter, he has performed in Denver and Las Vegas. Tonight he is joined by Brian Melloy, saxophone; Tony Rodriguez, piano; Cool, bass; and Arnaldo Acosta, drums.

Rumbatronix is a duo featuring Luis Guerra on bass, laptop, sampler, loops, vocals, and percussion and Camilo Quiñones on drums, percussion, samples and vocals. Taking traditional Latin rhythms and remixing them live, they create a seamless blend of cumbia, reggaeton, samba and bossa nova with hip hop, jungle, drum n’ bass, and groove. By integrating live instruments with technology, they create original music which can range from downtempo to high energy dance music. For tonight’s concert they will present their more ambient sound featuring live looping, live sampling, and complex layering with bass, percussion, drums and a laptop and will be joined by special guest, saxophonist, Kanoa Kaluhiwa. Originally from Texas, Luis Guerra is one of the most in-demand bassist in New Mexico. He has recorded and toured with a number of Grammy nominated songwriters and has performed in theaters and clubs in New York, San Francisco and LA. He is also an acclaimed mixed-media producer and composer. Camilo Quiñones comes from a lineage of percussionists, including his father Tony, his uncle Rafael, and his brother Marc. He has toured nationwide with the B-Side Players and El Gringo and has played with the late Tito Puente Sr., Tito Puente Jr, The Allman Brothers Band, the Carlos Santana Band, the Salvador Santana Band, Poncho Sanchez, and Ozomatli.
