Doug Lawrence Quartet
It’s always a treat to hear the great saxophonist, Doug Lawrence. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1956, he grew up in Albuquerque where he got his start playing in his father, Tilden Lawrence’s band. Then it was on to North Texas State, Las Vegas, NYC and Chicago. He has performed on six continents at every major jazz club, concert hall and festival in the world, and has recorded on over 100 albums. Among the artists he has performed and recorded with are Benny Goodman, Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughan, Rosemary Clooney, Jimmy Cobb’s Mob, Frank Wess, Buck Clayton, Billy Eckstine, and George Benson. Once again living in Albuquerque, he is on the road most of the year as lead tenor saxophonist with the World Famous Count Basie Orchestra who he has been with since 1993.
