Tonight’s benefit concert is led by one of Albuquerque’s finest jazz musicians, trumpeter Paul Gonzales. An Albuquerque native, he was stationed in the Army on the East Coast— playing in the Army Band of New England— where he studied with the late, great James Williams. Since the 1990s he has been a leader or member of numerous influential groups on the local jazz and Latin music scene including Tetragon, Son Como Son, Straight Up, Tradiciones, Salsa Suite and more. He has also performed with Ottmar Liebert, Calle 66 and Sparx and has backed up numerous jazz and pop artists touring in New Mexico. Also an educator, Gonzales currently teaches in the Outpost Jazz Education program. Tonight he has assembled a band of some of the finest working jazz musicians in New Mexico — a hard bop quintet with a lot of Latin Jazz and Gonzales originals in the mix. Kanoa Kaluhiwa, saxophone; Stu MacAskie, piano; Colin Deuble, bass; Tomas White, drums; with guests, Jackie Zamora, vocals; and Reynaldo Acosta, congas.

$25/$20 Members & Students. (No Member Passes).  Available in advance, by phone or in person, at the Outpost Performance Space (268-0044).
