Cathryn McGill Quartet
at Albuquerque’s Old Town Plaza
presented in partnership with the City of Albuquerque Cultural Affairs’ Old Town New Fun Series & Mayor Martin J. Chávez
Sponsored by Mesa del Sol
Cathryn McGill is a favorite featured singer/songwriter in the Southwest. She has shared the stage with major artists such as Lyle Lovett, the late Grover Washington, Jr. and Bo Diddley among others. Stylistically she is influenced by Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Roberta Flack and Betty Carter, but her unique style has been described by one reviewer as “electrifying, gospel-cooked jazz and blues.” McGill has deep roots in the gospel tradition having grown up singing in church choirs in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Today she performs in churches and nightclub and concert venues all over the state. She is currently writing songs and is planning a major CD entitled I’m On My Way to be released in the fall of 2008 and featuring original gospel flavored inspirational music. The quartet tonight features Stu MacAskie, keyboard; Dimi Disanti, guitar; Justin Bransford, bass; and Arnaldo Acosta, drums.
