Woof! with Patti Littlefield
Diego Arencon Quartet
Summer Thursday Jazz Nights at The Outpost Performance Space
Sponsored by Southwest Gastroenterology Associates, PC
Vocalist Patti Littlefield’s latest ensemble, Woof!, sets her voice into fresh grooves. Woof! takes songs from all genres and eras and molds them into creative new shapes. Patti Littlefield has been singing jazz & blues professionally for over 25 years, performing with local luminaries as well as on special projects for Doc Pomus, Jimmy Santiago Baca, and Joni Mitchell. Guitarist Lewis Winn’s distinctive style and impeccable musicianship have enriched the NM scene for many years. A private guitar instructor, Winn also teaches theory, arranging and composition at the College of Santa Fe, and has performed with artists such as Max Roach, Eddie Harris, and Richie Cole. Tuba player/composer Mark Weaver is a perennial contributor to the New Mexico music community, having performed in a wide range of creative music ensembles with artists such as Bill Clark, Dan Clucas, Chris Jonas, and Michael Vlatkovich. Santa Fe visual artist/musician Cal Haines has been playing drums professionally for over forty years, and has performed with Diahann Carroll, Al Greene, Clark Terry and Bobby Shew.
The Arencon Quartet, led by drummer Diego Arencon, will perform a set of original compositions and arrangements by all members of the group. Diego Arencon began his career at the age of fourteen as a percussionist in a flamenco ensemble led by his father “El Pelete”. He toured with his father for five years while being exposed to jazz by his mentor, Peter Amahl. He has performed with jazz artists, Richard Allen, Frank Morgan, Darrel Grant, Doug Lawrence, and Jeannie Bryson and has been an active musician on the Albuquerque Jazz scene as a leader and a side man for the last 12 years. Arencon has been performing with pianist John Rangel and bassist Luis Guerra for two years. Together they have moved Arencon, as he puts it, “to a different direction in the jazz art form. We share the passion of improvising over different forms of music without categorizing or labeling.” Joining the group will be saxophonist, Rick Keller who has lived for many years in Europe and has played with artists including George Russell, Billy Cobham, Joe Sample Joe Locke, John Betsch, Benny Bailey, and Claudio Roditi.
