Stu MacAskie Trio

with guest, Glenn Kostur

The Stu MacAskie Trio plays an eclectic mix, all of which falls under the rubric of contemporary jazz. Drawing from the Great American Songbook, the jazz canon, and from MacAskie’s original compositions, the trio looks forward as it stays rooted in the jazz tradition. Pianist Stu MacAskie emigrated to New Mexico ten years ago after an eight year stint in New York City. He has worked with a long list of jazz luminaries including Eric Alexander, Bill Watrous, Antonio Hart, and Walt Weiskopf. In the pop world his credits include Hassan Hakmoun, Patti Page and (speaking of eclectic) the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus. The Trio has worked steadily at Scalo Northern Italian Grill for the last two years. Drummer Cal Haines recently returned to being a mainstay in New Mexico’s jazz circle after spending ten years in California. Bassist Michael Glynn was an integral part of the Seattle jazz scene before his recent move to New Mexico. Guest saxophonist Glenn Kostur is the former Music Director for Maynard Feguson, and current Director of Jazz Studies at the University of New Mexico.
