Rodney Bowe Project
Arencon Trio
with special guests Bobby Shew & Rick Keller
Summer Thursday Jazz Nights
Tonight features projects by two former Summer Thursday Jazz Nights curators, Rodney Bowe and Diego Arencon. Opening the evening will be bassist Rodney Bowe’s latest funk-based ensemble project (stay tuned to outpostspace.org for details). Then it’s the Arencon Trio led by drummer Diego Arencon who has worked with two of New Mexico’s finest rhythm section members— pianist John Rangel, and bassist Luis Guerra— for about a year now. They have recorded their first studio session which will be completed this month. Diego Arencon began his career at the age of fourteen as a percussionist in a flamenco ensemble led by his father “El Pelete”. He toured with his father for five years while being exposed to jazz by his mentor, Peter Amahl. He has performed with jazz artists, Richard Allen, Frank Morgan, Darrel Grant, Doug Lawrence, and Jeannie Bryson. Tonight’s special guests are saxophonist, Rick Keller (who has lived for many years in Europe and has played with artists including George Russell, Billy Cobbham, Joe Sample Joe Locke, John Betsch, Benny Bailey, and Claudio Roditi to name a few); plus trumpeter. Bobby Shew.
$10/$5 Members. Available only at the door.
