Le Chat Lunatique plays a combination of Gypsy Swing, Western Swing and as they put it, “anything else we damn well please… Filthy, Mangy Jazz is our forte!” The project grew out of guitarist, John Sandlin and violinist, Muni Kulasinghe’s love for the great Hot Club of France, a gypsy swing group from 1940’s Paris, which included the combined genius of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. Bassist Jared Putnam’s western swing background then fused itself into the mix as well. Finally, drummer Fernando Garavito (from Colombia) adds a latin aspect to the groove. Recently voted “Best Jazz Act” in Albuquerque’s Weekly Alibi, they have opened for Asleep at the Wheel, The Hot Club of San Francisco and The Djangomatics.
Jazz crooning vocalist, Tommy Gearhart, is an up and coming young lion in the music scene. Though his performances cannot escape being compared to greats such as Harry Connick, Jr., Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett, he has developed his own unique style –an honest, traditional approach with utmost respect to the melody and lyrics, along with tasteful, heartfelt jazz phrasing that is best summed up by veteran jazz pianist, John Clark - "I've never heard anyone phrase with as much feeling as Tommy, since Sinatra. You can't teach that ... You've either got it or you don't." Gearhart has performed at venues in Las Vegas, NV, in music festivals around the US, and has shared the stage with many fantastic musicians such as the legendary father of Vocalese, Jon Hendricks, trombonist, Delfeayo Marsalis, legendary tenor saxophonist, Donald Walden, members of Harry Connick, Jr.'s Big Band – tenor saxophonist, Jerry Weldon, trumpeter, Derrick Gardner, baritone saxophonist, Dave Schumacher, bassist, Neil Caine, and members of Michael Buble's band. The Tommy Gearhart Quartet also features Tony Cesarano, guitar; Dan Spanogle, bass; David Edwards, drums.
