Jazz in the Evening in Old Town Plaza:
Kanoa Kaluhiwa Group
presented in partnership with the City of Albuquerque & Mayor Martin J. Chávez
A cross cultural blend of jazz harmonies with Afro-Cuban rhythms and a taste of mbira and African drumming led by one of Albuquerque’s finest saxophonists. Some originals by Kaluhiwa with arrangements of other jazz not-so-standards such as Wayne Shorter's Penelope and Ana Maria; McCoy Tyner's Passion Dance; or John Coltrane's 26-2. The ensemble features Kanoa Kaluhiwa on saxophone, mbira and percussion; Michael Olivola, electric and upright bass, Cesar Bauvallet, trombone and congas; Steve Figueroa, keyboards; and Tomás White, drums and percussion.
