McCoy Tyner Septet: The Story of Impulse! Records

Pianist McCoy Tyner is one of the most important pianists in jazz history. Along with with Elvin Jones and Jimmy Garrison, McCoy Tyner comprised one of the most influential jazz ensembles ever: THE John Coltrane Quartet. After leaving Trane, he went on to establish his own highly influential solo career transforming the way jazz piano was approached. This current, hand picked, all-star septet is touring Europe and the US playing the music of the incredible groundbreaking Impulse! Records ("The New Wave In Jazz") which included on its roster, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders, and Tyner himself. The septet includes Eric Alexander, and Donald Harrison, saxophones; Wallace Roney, trumpet; Steve Turre, trombone; Charnett Moffett, bass; & Eric Kamau Gravatt, drums.
