Director's Note

Spring 2008

As we go to press, Outpost (along with the Santa Fe Jazz Foundation) is about to present the All-Star, 15-member Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis at the Kiva Auditorium—as part of their 2008 Ellington Love Songs Tour which will wind up at Lincoln Center on Valentines Day. It promises to be a great concert. This spring we’ll also be presenting three March concerts as a kind of warm-up for the 3rd Annual New Mexico Jazz Festival which will take place once again in Albuquerque and Santa Fe during the last two weeks of July (line-up to be announced soon!!) For these March events, we have Pat Metheny (Lensic), the SFJAZZ Collective (NHCC), and Charles Lloyd (Lensic). Check it out! Three great ensembles!

As you read this Spring 08 newsletter, you will notice that some prices have gone up a bit—something we felt we had to do.  In order to continue doing what we do—paying artists decently, presenting great music and educational activities, and making things right for you—we simply had to adjust things a bit. So we hope that you understand and will support us in this decision in order that we can continue to present the best for you. First, ticket prices went up just slightly (still a great value, we believe). And secondly, for the first time in over ten years, we had to raise our membership fees. Along with this, came some category and benefit changes: for one thing, from now on ALL students with an ID will be admitted at member price in an effort to encourage the next generation to attend our concerts at The Space and beyond. We hope you will understand and we look forward to your thoughts and comments. Email us at info@outpostspace.org, please. And while on that subject, let us know if you want to be on our new email Listserve and be kept up-to-date on Outpost happenings. For those of you who are already on it, we hope it‘s working for you. Let us know. We’re looking forward to seeing you soon. Happy 2008!
